A spark of hope: How our donation lights up the SOS Children’s Village
Today we would like to talk to you about a matter of the heart that has touched us deeply. In Hamburg, 100 highly stressed families are cared for by the SOS Children’s Village. Of course, behind them are just as many stories of people who urgently need help and support. In the outpatient help of the SOS Children’s Village crisis intervention, more than 20 employees are committed to providing these families with the best possible care and support. They are the strong shoulders on which families can rely in difficult and often traumatic times. In moments when life is coming apart at the seams and conflicts threaten to escalate into violence, they are there for these people.
Acute assistance for families in need
The situations in which these families live can be distressing, and our support is crucial to protect the well-being of the children. This is because the primary goal of the SOS Family Helpers:in is to prevent a possible threat to children’s well-being and to protect children in need. They act quickly and unbureaucratically to meet acute needs. An empty refrigerator, missing winter clothing, toys or books for the little ones or the cost of urgently needed medication – this is where their help comes in. What particularly moves us is the fact that these helpers regularly face such challenging situations without being able to fall back on a sufficient pot for quick assistance. Nevertheless, they are not discouraged and work tirelessly to improve the lives of these families.
Our contribution
That’s why it was a clear decision for us as a company to support the SOS Children’s Village Hamburg in its crisis intervention. With our donation, we want to make a difference and help SOS Children’s Village Hamburg to continue its important work. We want to help ensure that no child has to suffer from hunger, cold or lack of medical care.
Our donation of € 115,000 may be just a drop in the bucket, given the challenges these families face. But we firmly believe that every contribution counts and together we can make a big impact. Every euro goes directly to providing much needed help to these children and families.
The 1st SOS Children’s Village in Hamburg opens its doors
In August 2021, the time has finally come: After almost a decade of planning and about two years of construction, the “Port for Families” opens with children’s village families and family center.
As one of the donors, we from SSW-Trading were allowed to be present at the inauguration of the “Walk of Help”.
Torsten Rebbe, Director of SOS Children’s Village Hamburg, says: “We want to offer children who have no home a family. An SOS Children’s Village mother or father raises the child, teaches it values as well as norms, comforts it and supports it as it grows up. […] Just like in a family, not all the children come at once, but little by little. This is how the family grows together.”
We at SSW are very proud to have been able to contribute to Hamburg’s first SOS Children’s Village!

Our responsibility
It is our responsibility to strengthen those who work to help the most vulnerable in our society.
We are deeply grateful to be part of this important mission and hope that our donation will bring a spark of hope into the lives of the children and families served by SOS Children’s Villages Hamburg. A special thank you to the helping hands who pitch in and take on these challenges every day!
